Stark County man charged for 2017 murders of his mother, brother

He's facing two counts of murder.

CANTON -- A 26-year-old man is facing charges for the 2017 murders of his mother and brother.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office says 26-year-old Jacob Timothy Stockdale turned himself in Thursday after a grand jury issued a secret indictment charging him with murder.

Stockdale allegedly killed his brother, 21-year-old James William Stockdale, and his mother, 54-year-old Kathryn Barbara Stockdale, in their Bethlehem Township home June 15, 2017.

The family had appeared on the ABC TV show "Wife Swap" in 2008. The Jacob and James were also part of a band called The Stockdale Family Band, along with their other brothers Calvin and Charles. According to the band's website, Jacob is described as having once won Ohio's fiddle grand champion. James is described as "the one with the sparkle in his eye that can create excitement when he wants to on stage or off."

The sheriff's office says Jacob Stockdale has been recovering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound since the incident.

Jacob Stockdale was booked into the Stark County Jail on two counts of murder.
