92-year-old man dead following fire at Summit County home; cause under investigation

The incident occurred in Northfield Center Township, near Macedonia. One firefighter also suffered minor injuries in the blaze.

MACEDONIA, Ohio — Officials confirm a man is dead following a fire at a Summit County home Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred on Marwyck Drive in Northfield Center Township, where the Macedonia Fire Department has jurisdiction. According to a press release, officials received a 911 call from a neighbor just before 10 a.m., with the individual stating she believed an elderly blind man lived inside the burning house.

Once on scene, crews observed "heavy fire and smoke" coming from the front of the structure. As firefighters worked to extinguish flames throughout both stories of the home, the 92-year-old resident was found in the front room, and it was discovered he had died from his injuries.

Eighteen firefighters from three different departments responded to the area, per authorities. One firefighter suffered minor injuries in the incident.

While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials believe it began in the front room where the man's body was located. His name has not been released at this time.
