Police say the accident happened at around 4:48 a.m. at Andrus Street and Station Avenue. Upon arriving on the scene, officers located a car flipped on its side and three occupants trapped inside.

The Akron Fire Department extracted the occupants from the car, where they found a 31-year-old woman in the front passenger seat who had died. The woman's identity has not yet been released.

The 18-year-old driver and a 38-year-old man, who was a rear passenger, were taken to local hospitals with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Upon initial investigation, police believe that the vehicle, a Ford Explorer, was traveling northbound on Andrus Street. While crossing Stanton Avenue, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to slide off the road, strike a tree and flip on its side.

Police say that speed appears to be a factor in the crash and that none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
