Commercial semi-truck and trailer crash causes traffic delays in Akron

The highway was closed for several hours while officials cleared the highway of spilled milk and gas.

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a crash involving a commercial semi-truck and trailer Sunday. 

According to a report, the driver of a United Dairy semi-truck and tank trailer was unable to navigate a turn when he struck a traffic sign and over turned. 

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. on SR-18. 

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Joshua Smith. Smith crawled out of the semi-truck on his own and was later transported by Bath Township EMS to Akron General Hospital for minor injuries. 

Smith was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Officials do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. 

The highway was closed for several hours while officials cleared the highway of spilled milk and gas. 

Bath and Copley Township Police and EMS responded to the scene to assist. The crash remains under investigation. Stay with 3News for updates as they become available.
