A local school is clarifying its policy after two parents sent lunch to their kids using a food delivery service.
Copley-Fairlawn Superintendent Brian Poe said a letter was sent home to parents stating that the school would not be allowing food delivery services, such as Uber Eats and DoorDash, to drop of lunch to students. The new policy came after two parents ordered food from the delivery service to drop it off to their kids at Copley Middle School.
“The first and foremost concern of ours is the safety and security of our students,” said Poe. “So having an unauthorized person on the ground, bringing a bag or box into a school is a great concern this day in age.”
Poe said there are guidelines in place at the high school where students are not permitted to order outside food. But with new food delivery options, the district chose to clarify their policy district-wide.
“As a parent, you can still drop off food, you can drop of something to students,” said Poe. “We’re not restricting that, but we do need to restrict folks that are strangers to our school district.”
Poe said the policy is meant to keep kids safe and to also minimize outside distractions.
