Driver dies after car crashes down Barberton embankment

Barberton police say the driver was the only occupant inside the vehicle.

BARBERTON, Ohio — One person has died following an early morning crash in the 1400 block of West Waterloo Road in Barberton.

Police say officers responded to the scene of the one-car crash around 6:20 a.m. Monday. When police arrived, they found a 2017 Chrysler sedan had traveled off the roadway and down an embankment.

Barberton fire personnel removed the driver from the car and transported them to Summa Barberton Hospital where they later died.

The driver was the lone occupant inside the vehicle. Their name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.

The Barberton Police Department, the Summit Metro Crash Response Team and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office are investigating the incident.

No additional details were immediately available.
