Northfield man dies after motorcycle is struck by car in Sagamore Hills

Officials say a vehicle being driven by an 89-year-old woman failed to yield coming out of a driveway, causing the bike to crash into it.

SAGAMORE HILLS, Ohio — A 20-year-old man is dead after police say his motorcycle was struck by a car Thursday night in Summit County.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol the incident occurred on Houton Road near Walton Road in Sagamore Hills, where Northfield native Mason Ridgley was riding his bike westbound. Just before 8:20 p.m., a Mercury Grand Marquis being driven by an 89-year-old woman was attempting to go from one driveway to another, but the woman allegedly failed to yield, and the motorcycle hit the front bumper of the car.

Ridgely was thrown off the bike and onto the road, and eventually died at the scene from his injuries. The woman operating the Mercury was unhurt.

The incident remains under investigation, however officials stress neither alcohol nor drugs were involved and that Ridgely was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
