CLEVELAND -- Cuyahoga County Councilman Dan Brady is the new President of the Cuyahoga County Council

On Friday morning, county council members selected the former Cleveland City Councilman and state lawmaker over Councilwoman Yvonne Conwell by a vote of 7 to 3.

Councilman Pernel Jones was picked as Vice President. He supported Brady's bid for President.

Brady pledges to follow the path set by outgoing President C. Ellen Connally. The Democrat wants to work with Republicans in a bipartisan spirit and maintain council's role as a check and watchdog on the Cuyahoga County Executive.

He was Council VIce President during Connally's term.

The council president decides on meeting topics, chairs meetings and assigns council members to committees.

The president's post pays $55,000. That's $10,000 more than a regular council member's salary.

Brady hopes to collaborate with new County Executive Armond Budish.
