Ohio may not be the swing state everybody watches in Tuesday's elections, but 2016 could be very different.

CLEVELAND -- Ohio may not be the swing state everybody watches in Tuesday's elections, but eyes could fall on us for the 2016 presidential battle.

NBC's political director, and host of "Meet the Press," Chuck Todd, points to the Buckeye State as a potentially big focus in 2016.

"I think there's been no bigger winner this year in 2016 presidential politics on the Republican side than John Kasich," Todd reveals. "I think the Republican Party nationally would like to nominate a governor."

Gov. Kasich is expected to be reelected Tuesday as Ohio's governor over Democratic opponent Ed FitzGerald.

"I think John Kasich starts 2015 as one of the more intriguing potential presidential candidates there are in the country," Todd adds.

Todd says the presidential race officially starts Wednesday as candidates start announcing their campaigns.

As for this year's election, Todd says President Obama's lame duck status could "speed up" if Republicans take control of the Senate.

"He won't be able to control the domestic agenda in many ways. Congressional Republicans will decide what he has a chance to sign into law, what legislation hits his desk."
