Husted deposition in HB 6 scandal delayed again

Lt. Governor Jon Husted (R-Ohio) was scheduled to be deposed by attorneys involved in the First Energy Civil case, but according to a source, that’s been delayed.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Lt. Governor Jon Husted (R-Ohio) was scheduled to be deposed by attorneys involved in the First Energy civil case, but according to a source, that’s been delayed as lawyers await a decision by a federal judge in Cincinnati about how the case should proceed.

The deposition was scheduled to take place in Columbus on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m.

According to a court filing, this is a class action lawsuit involving hundreds of investors. Among the plaintiffs listed are the Los Angeles Employees Retirement Association and Amalgamated Bank, City of Irving Supplemental Benefit Plan and Wisconsin Laborers’ Pension Fund.

Attorneys representing the plaintiffs will argue their client's investments were hurt by the fallout of HB 6.

The first criminal charges against the two former First Energy executives were filed Feb. 12.

Charged with a combined 27 felony counts are Sam Randazzo, former PUCO chairman; Charles “Chuck” Jones, former CEO of First Energy; and Michael Dowling, former First Energy senior vice president of external affairs.

The case stems from the $60 million bribery scheme concocted by the Akron-based energy giant and a now-incarcerated House speaker.

Attorney General Dave Yost issued a statement after the indictment was filed saying, “This indictment is about more than one piece of legislation. It is about the hostile capture of a significant portion of Ohio's state government by deception, betrayal and dishonesty. Shout it from the public square to the boardroom, from Wall Street to Broad and High: Those who perversely seek to turn the government to their own private ends will face the destruction of everything they worked for.”
