The storms will erupt along the periphery of a building dome of heat across the central and southern Plains. Summer-like heat and humidity will also continue to bake the mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Deep South.

A few showers and thunderstorms will dot the Florida Peninsula, parts of New England and the lower Mississippi Valley, offering brief relief from the oppressive air.

Hot and dry air will continue to enhance the risk for wildfire development and spread in the Four Corners region, while a storm system trekking through the Pacific Northwest plagues the region with unseasonably cool and showery weather.
