U.S. Marshals work with officers in Stark County to track down fugitive rape suspect

Surfin Percy was captured on July 4 after failing to appear for his trial in Cuyahoga County

NAVARRE, Ohio — U.S. Marshals and officers from the Navarre Police Department and the Stark County Sheriff's Office have captured 38-year-old fugitive Surfin Percy.

Percy was scheduled to stand trial in Cuyahoga County on charges of rape, kidnapping, and child endangering. He did not show up for his first court appearance on June 10, 2019. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force started their seach for Percy on June 24.

Officers located Percy on Thursday afternoon at a home in the 6300 block of Pigeon Run Road in Navarre. He tried to escape arrest, leading officers on a chase by foot before being captured.

Investigators recovered two handguns and police identification in Percy’s belongings. Percy will remain at the Stark County Jail until he can be transferred back to Cuyahoga County.

“Even on a holiday members of our task force know the importance of getting someone like Surfin Percy off the streets.  Percy will now have to stand trial for the crimes he is accused of and his victim should rest better knowing he is in jail," U.S. Marshal Peter Elliot said in a statement.

In addition, an acquaintance of Percy’s is likely to be charged after it was learned that person was providing assistance to Percy knowing he was a fugitive.
