5-star QB Justin Fields will transfer to Ohio State from Georgia

Fields made his decision official with a social media post on Friday night

Two weeks ago, Ryan Day made an impressive Signing Day debut when he landed 5-star defensive end Zach Harrison.

It didn't take long for the new Ohio State head coach to top it.

After officially taking over for Urban Meyer following the Buckeyes' victory in the Rose Bowl on Tuesday, Day has landed the hottest free agent on the college market. Former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields announced on Friday night that he is transferring to Ohio State.

The transfer, first reported by Letterman Row, comes less than a month after it was first reported Fields was seeking to leave the Bulldogs.

A former 5-star prospect, Fields ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 overall player in the 2018 class. Per 247Sports, he is the highest rated prospect to ever sign with Ohio State, edging out Terrelle Pryor.

Appearing in 12 games as a true freshman, he completed 27 of his 39 pass attempts for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns, while adding 266 yards and 4 scores on the ground. But with Jake Fromm set to return to Athens in 2019, Fields' playing time would have likely once again been limited to situational and mop-up duty.

That won't be the case in Columbus, should the 6-foot-2, 225-pound signal-caller be granted immediate eligibility. Fields is expected to compete with redshirt sophomore Tate Martell to replace Dwayne Haskins, who is expected to enter the NFL Draft after his Heisman Trophy finalist season.

According to Letterman Row, Fields will arrive on campus on Friday with the intention to enroll in classes by the start of Ohio State's new semester on Monday. In addition to the Buckeyes, Fields was reportedly considering transfers to Oklahoma, Florida State and UCLA.
