Avon Lake trounces North Olmsted 49-14 in WKYC.com's Game of the Week; Euclid continues to dominate

Konner Riggs ran for four touchdowns to help blow open a 7-7 tie after the first quarter.

Week 2 of high school football saw Konner Riggs and the Avon Lake Shoremen sail on mightily, crushing the North Olmsted Eagles 49-14 in WKYC.com's Game of the Week.

Riggs turned things up a notch after a strong opening week performance, running for four touchdowns to help blow open a 7-7 tie after the first quarter. His best burst came on a 54-yard sprint in the fourth.

North Olmsted's Darren Anders tied things up late in the first with a 22-yard score, but a 29-yard Jake Mikolich pass to Cole Schraff gave Avon Lake (2-0, 1-0 Southwestern Conference) a lead they would not relinquish. It was one of two scoring tosses on the night for Mikolich, who helped the Shoremen avenge last year's overtime loss to the Eagles.

Avon Lake will now prepare for local rival Avon next week, while North Olmsted (1-1, 0-1) gets set to do battle with Midview.

EUCLID 42, LORAIN 21

With the game tied at 21 late in the third quarter, the Panthers scored three unanswered touchdowns en route to their second straight win against a team that made the playoffs last year (both by more than 20 points). Quarterback Dion Valentine had four total scores, including two passes to Damien Brown.

NOTRE DAME-CATHEDRAL LATIN 42, WEST GEAUGA 7

The Lions scored the last 42 points in a game that was a complete opposite of last year's 13-12 double overtime slugfest. QB Nick Gattozzi threw for three scored, and the defense added two pick-sixes.

STRONGSVILLE 35, HUDSON 28

Despite a furious comeback attempt by the Explorers (who were down 28-7 in the fourth quarter), the Mustangs held on for thr victory thanks to three touchdowns by running back Taylor Griffin on just eight carries. Liam Brennan had 267 yards through the air for Hudson, but it wasn't enough to keep his squad from falling to 0-2.
