St. Ignatius hockey honored on ESPN SportsCenter's 'Senior Night'

ESPN's Scott Van Pelt paid tribute to the St. Ignatius hockey team during Wednesday night's episode of SportsCenter.

The St. Ignatius hockey team was preparing to face Gilmour in the State semifinal at Nationwide Arena in Columbus last week when word came that the state tournament had been indefinitely postponed -- and in all likelihood, canceled -- due to concerns regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19).

But while the Wildcats -- who amassed a 30-4-1 record this past season -- likely won't be able to play for a fifth consecutive state championship this year, they did receive a consolation prize in the form of a shoutout from ESPN's Scott Van Pelt.

With the coronavirus bringing an abrupt halt to sports across the country, many seniors at both the high school and college level have seen their respective athletic careers come to abrupt ends. As a result, Van Pelt has been dedicating a portion of the 11 p.m. SportsCenter to those players, with a segment he calls "Senior Night."

On Wednesday, St. Ignatius received its time to shine, with Van Pelt touting the Wildcats' historic success and sharing the story of the impromptu team skate the team held following last week's postponement. You can watch the entirety of Van Pelt's 'Senior Night' segment in the tweet below:
