Wednesday's Cleveland Guardians-Cincinnati Reds game postponed by rain; 2 teams will play Thursday afternoon

Both interleague rivals were scheduled to have Thursday off, making the decision to postpone a relatively easy one.

CLEVELAND — Those hoping to catch the finale of the 2022 "Battle of Ohio" will have to wait one more day.

Wednesday evening's matchup between the Guardians and Cincinnati Reds has been postponed due to persistent rain in the Cleveland area. It marks the fifth time this year a game at Progressive Field has had to be rescheduled due to weather.

The previous four postponements were all made up via doubleheaders, but in this case, both teams were scheduled to be off on Thursday. Therefore, the game will be made up tomorrow at 1:10 p.m., with first pitch moved up to the afternoon to allow the Reds more time to travel to Toronto for the start of their series with the Blue Jays on Friday.

All tickets purchased for Wednesday's game will be honored for Thursday, but single-game ticket purchasers can also exchange their seats for one of 28 other contests on CLEGuardians.com/mytickets. Season ticket holders will have more options available here.

FORECAST: Summertime heat returns soon!

Thursday will mark the fourth and final showdown of this season's "Battle of Ohio," as well as the second meeting of the Red's only series at Progressive Field this year. The Guardians won both games in Cincinnati last month to retain the Ohio Cup for the eighth straight time, but the Reds got on the board Tuesday with a 5-4 victory in 10 innings.
