Cleveland Indians place Andrew Miller on 10-day disabled list

The Cleveland Indians have placed Andrew Miller on the 10-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury, while recalling Tyler Olson from Triple-A Columbus.

CLEVELAND -- As the Cleveland Indians hit the homestretch of the regular season, they'll be without a key member of their bullpen.

On Wednesday, the Indians announced they've placed left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to August 27. According to a press release, Miller has been diagnosed with external impingement in his left shoulder. As a result, Cleveland will recall Tyler Olson from Triple-A Columbus.

Miller's latest trip to the DL marks his third of the season, as he has previously dealt with hamstring and knee issues. Appearing in 27 games this season, the 2-time All-Star has amassed a 2-3 record and a 3.38 earned run average -- his highest since the 2011 season.

Olson, meanwhile, begins his third stint in Cleveland, where he has posted a 1-1 record and 6.75 ERA in 32 appearances.

Between the injuries to Miller and inconsistencies elsewhere, the Indians bullpen has laid claim to a 4.83 ERA -- the fifth-highest in baseball this season. The 33-year-old Miller is slated to become a free agent at season's end.
