MLB All-Star Week brings entertainment, activities to Cleveland

The whole city is getting in on the All-Star action, PLAY BALL Park to join the fun.

Progressive Field isn’t the only thing rocking for Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week in Cleveland.

WKYC's Will Ujek caught up with The Plain Dealer Reporter Laura DeMarco for the scoop.

"At the Rock Hall in beautiful downtown Cleveland, there are actually quite a few items in their permanent collection, as well as their Shine A Light exhibit, that sort of focus on the interconnectedness of rock and baseball," DeMarco said.

Make sure to stop by to get a close-up view of artifacts like Beach Boys members Mike Love's baseball jersey and Carl Wilson’s jumpsuit. There will be plenty of music to enjoy as well. The Baseball Project, a super-group featuring R.E.M. members Peter Buck and Mike Mills, will be playing free concerts on the Rock Hall plaza this week.

And what would rock and roll and baseball be without a party?

Wild Eagle Saloon has you covered on that front. They're one of the 73 local bars approved to stay open until 4 a.m. during All-Star Week. They're also taking over the space all the way to E. 9th street for a special three-day block party.

"Not only is it going to be a great party, you can sample ballpark-inspired foods and drinks. You can also catch live music each day, and you can try your skills at the fastpitch machine," DeMarco said.

Even better, proceeds will benefit the Animal Protective League.

But if visiting past greats of America’s favorite past-time is more your thing, plan a trip over to Cleveland's legendary League Park, home to Cleveland's first World Series win back in 1920, as well as Babe Ruth's 500th home run in 1929.

"They're going to be doing a series about the history of League Park and baseball in Cleveland, and Major League Baseball is going to be using the field here for some of their kids' leagues," said DeMarco.

The Baseball Heritage Museum will be open all weekend, and through Tuesday with extended hours.

Overall, there are plenty of events and attractions around the city centered around a big baseball week in Cleveland that Laura hopes shines a beautiful light on the city.

"I hope they leave with a sense of both Cleveland's rich history in regards to baseball, and overall, just a sense of what Cleveland is today. We're a vibrant, modern American city."

These three activities just scratch the surface of all of the fun to be had around Cleveland during All-Star Week. Click here for our full guide to MLB All-Star Week in Cleveland.
