CLEVELAND — Basketball is far from the first thing on Cedi Osman's mind right now.
The Cavaliers forward has instead been thinking about his home country of Turkey, where a devastating 6.8 earthquake struck Elazığ Province Friday. At least 18 people are dead and hundreds more have been injured, with dozens also trapped under fallen buildings.
For the last 24-plus hours, Osman has been tweeting well wishes to the region in his native language. On Saturday, he also announced his intentions to give back, pledging to donate $100 U.S. for every three-pointer the Cavs and the Chicago Bulls make as a team during their game tonight in Cleveland.
Osman has been active in outreach around Northeast Ohio, including with the Cavs' initiatives at the local Boys & Girls Clubs. However, his latest act of kindness is undoubtedly personal to him, and several fans showed their support on social media and even pledged to give themselves.
Tonight's Cavs-Bulls game tips off at 8 p.m. from Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
