CLEVELAND — The offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers has seemingly gone from bad to worse.

According to several reports, including ESPN's Dave McMenamin, talks between the Lakers and Tyronn Lue to become the team's new head coach have broken down.

Per McMenamin, the Lakers offered the former Cavaliers head coach a three-year deal worth $18 million dollars. Lue's camp was apparently looking for a longer deal with the salary more commensurate with his resume that includes an NBA title.

There's another reason why Lue may have been seeking a longer contract, as Yahoo's Chris Haynes points out.

A three-year contract would match the exact amount of time that Lue would have with LeBron James before James' contract runs out.

There apparently was another issue between Lue and the Lakers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Los Angeles wanted Jason Kidd on Lue's coaching staff. The Hall of Fame guard and former NBA head coach has long been a favorite of LeBron James.

When you add it all up, apparently the two sides have decided to move on.

Remember, this offseason began with Magic Johnson's abrupt resignation as L.A.'s president of basketball operations.
