Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

Mayfield completed 27 passes for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Cleveland Browns' 26-18 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

CLEVELAND -- As his rookie season winds down, the hardware keeps coming for Baker Mayfield.

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns' rookie quarterback was named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 16.

Leading the Browns to a 26-18 victory, Mayfield completed 27 of his 37 pass attempts for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns. The No. 1 overall pick also posted a 121.9 passer rating, marking the fourth time in the previous six games he's surpassed the 100-mark.

Since taking over as Cleveland's quarterback midway through its Week 3 win over the New York Jets, Mayfield has emerged as not only one of the league's top rookies, but quarterbacks of any age. Over the course of 13 games, the Oklahoma product has completed 64.6 percent of his passes for 3,349 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 95.1 passer rating.

Mayfield has come on particularly strong following the Browns' midseason firing of head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. In the time since, Cleveland has accumulated a 5-2 record heading into Sunday's regular-season finale against the Baltimore Ravens.

This marks the first time this season Mayfield has been named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week, although the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner is no stranger to hardware. On five occasions this season, he's been named the NFL's Pepsi Rookie of the Week, in addition to being named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Month for the month of November.

Mayfield is the first Browns player to be named AFC Player of the Week since quarterback Josh McCown earned the honor in Week 15 of the 2015 season.
