Cleveland Browns sign QB Josh Rosen, DE Isaac Rochell to practice squad

The Cleveland Browns have signed two more players to their practice squad.

CLEVELAND — After signing 12 players to their practice squad on Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns have made two more additions. On Thursday, the Browns announced that they have signed quarterback Josh Rosen and defensive end Isaac Rochell to their practice squad.

Both Rosen and Rochell had spent this past preseason with Cleveland, but were released this week as NFL teams were required to trim their respective rosters to 53 players ahead of the start of the 2022 season. Rosen was a part of the team's initial wave of releases ahead of the 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday, while Rochell was released after the Browns successfully claimed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kellen Mond off of waivers.

In re-signing Rosen, the Browns now have five quarterbacks under contract. Deshaun Watson is currently serving a suspension for the first 11 games of the season after violating the league's Personal Conduct Policy following multiple accusations of misconduct, while Jacoby Brissett, Joshua Dobbs and Mond are set to begin the season on Cleveland's active roster.

Rosen, meanwhile, will start the season on the Browns' practice squad. That will give the 2018 first-round pick the ability to practice with Cleveland throughout the week, while maintaining the freedom to sign with another team's active roster -- although NFL teams are permitted to protect up to four practice squad players each week.

As for Rochell, the 27-year-old Notre Dame product is coming off a strong preseason with the Browns, but ultimately became a casualty of the active roster following the signing of Mond. Currently, Cleveland has five defensive ends on its active roster in Myles Garrett, Jadeveon Clowney, Chase Winovich, Alex Wright and Isaiah Thomas.

NFL teams are permitted to carry 16 players on their practice squad. The Browns are currently carrying 14.
