The Cleveland Browns aren't scheduled to face the Pittsburgh Steelers until November 14 -- a primetime matchup on Thursday Night Football.
Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry, however, won't have to wait that long for his next matchup against former Cleveland cornerback Joe Haden.
On Saturday, Landry will host his inaugural Celebrity Softball Game, a star-studded affair that will take place at Classic Park Stadium in Eastlake. In doing so, the 4-time Pro Bowl wide receiver will lead 'Team Landry' against 'Team Haden' in a format Landry took to Instagram to announce on Monday night.
The matchup between Landry and Haden is a natural one for multiple reasons. Aside from the two matching up against each other while playing for rival teams twice a year, Haden ran an annual celebrity softball game in Northeast Ohio throughout his time as a member of the Browns, with the most recent version of his event occurring in 2015.
In addition to Landry and Haden, various athletes and celebrities have already been announced for the game, including Myles Garrett, Bernie Kosar, Kareem Hunt, David Njoku, Stipe Miocic, Travis Kelce, Leonard Fournette, Trai Turner and Nate Robinson.
“I’m just in a position and the platform that I have, to be able to inspire kids, to be able to do football camps, to be able to be in the community, to be able to partner with these guys and put something together for the community, for charity, for bigger things than myself," Landry said after throwing out the first pitch at a Lake County Captains game last month to promote the event.
“For me, I personally believe that’s what God put me here to do, be an influence, be an inspiration to other people and help.”
Saturday's event, which is sponsored by Clear Vision Marketing, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., with a home run derby taking place at 4 p.m. Gates will open at 3 p.m.
