CLEVELAND — The roller coaster ride of weather in Northeast Ohio continues.
Despite the fact that Wednesday's temperatures surged near 60 degrees, they are now dropping rapidly, and the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 7 a.m. Friday morning:
- Ashtabula
- Cuyahoga
- Geauga
- Lake
- Lorain
Officials are expecting up to four inches of snow in some areas, as well as ice as thick as 1/4 of an inch along with wind gusts as high as 35 miles per hour. Rain is quickly changing into a wintery mix and then to snow altogether, and this could greatly impact Friday's morning commute.
Winter weather advisories will also be in effect for the following counties (timeframes specified):
4 p.m. Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday
- Cuyahoga
- Geauga
- Lake
- Lorain
- Medina
- Summit
7 p.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday
- Ashland
- Holmes
- Richland
- Wayne
2 p.m. Thursday until 1 a.m. Friday
- Erie
- Huron
- Ottawa
- Seneca
10 p.m. Thursday until 4 a.m. Friday
- Mahoning
- Portage
- Stark
- Trumbull
According to the National Weather Service, mixed precipitation is expected in these areas with total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches and ice accumulations of around 1/10 of an inch. Winds may be gusting as high as 35 mph.
Precipitation will begin as rain Thursday afternoon, changing over to freezing rain, sleet, and then snow by late Thursday evening. Motorists should plan on slippery roads as the hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.
The news about Thursday's Winter Weather Advisory comes as parts of several Northeast Ohio counties are under a flood warning. This includes Ashland, Cuyahoga, Erie, Holmes, Lake, Lorain, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, and Wayne.
