A storm system is forecast to linger over the Southern states, bringing areas of rain, drizzle and thunderstorms from Texas to the Carolinas and Florida.

The damp weather could cause setbacks for those recovering from recent severe weather outbreaks and areas ravaged by Hurricane Michael. Enough cold air will be in place across the central Plains for snow to fall and threaten slick travel in Nebraska and Kansas.

The northern Plains and Upper Midwest will remain mainly dry with temperatures well below normal. Dry, sunny weather is expected to prevail across the West. Breezy conditions in Northern and Southern California will keep the fire danger elevated.
