The Urban League of Greater Cleveland will celebrate 100 years of history this week with a benefit concert headlined by R&B artist Jeffrey Osborne.

Established in 1917 to aid African-Americans migrating to Cleveland from the South, the Urban League has become a local pillar of a nonprofit that still assists those on society’s margins through education, research and advocacy.

“We’re in the business of empowering communities and changing lives” is how President and CEO Marsha Mockabee explained the agency’s current mission, while appearing recently on WKYC’s We The People show.

She gave an overview of the Urban League’s many programs, including its Entrepreneurship Center which offers support to local small businesses.

The celebratory concert will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16. “We’re so excited about this milestone,” Mockabee said, of the 100th anniversary.

WKYC is among a long list of local companies supporting the Urban League benefit that is being headlined by balladeer Jeffrey Osborne. Best known as the lead singer of the R&B funk band L.T.D. during the 1970s, Osborne went on to make solo albums.

Presenting sponsor is the Hard Rock Rocksino, where the concert will be held. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Hard Rock Rocksino at Northfield Park, 10777 Northfield Road in Northfield, Ohio. Please note that this is a 21-years-of- age-and-over event.

All seats are reserved and no cameras are permitted. For more information, call 855-660-7625. Parking is free but valet is also available for a fee.
