Akron's WinterBlast: Ice bumper cars, skating, and more!

You'll forget the cold weather when you're hanging out at Lock 3 in Akron.

AKRON, Ohio — Ready, set, fun! That's what you can expect at Akron's Lock 3 Park, for its annual WinterBlast event.

For starters, the city has hosted one of the largest outdoor, seasonal ice-skating rinks in Northeast Ohio, for the past 17 years.

In recent years, it's added more fun with the addition of ice bumper cars, ice bikes and an indoor, polar putt-putt course.

Organizers tell us the planning process starts six months in advance, and come November, workers are ready to turn Lock 3 into a winter wonderland.

But if you're wondering who and what to bring, consider this: You can come for an adult-only date night by renting an igloo ($50 for two hours; fits 8 people). Or, snag some space by a fire pit for $15 per hour.

There's also concessions with plenty of snacks, adult beverages and hot chocolate.

WinterBlast runs through February 21st.

Hours include:

  • Monday and Tuesday: CLOSED
  • Wednesday-Thursday: 11am to 9pm
  • Friday-Saturday: 11am to 11pm
  • Sunday: 11am to 6pm

Prices for rentals:

  • Skating with skate rental: $5
  • Skating with own skates: $3
  • Ice bumper cars: $10 for 10 minutes
  • Ice bike: $10 for 20 minutes
  • Polar putt-putt golf: $3
