On International Self-Care Day officials remind Ohioans to "take a little me-time"

International Self-Care Day exists to raise the profile of healthy lifestyle self-care programs around the world

OHIO, USA — On International Self-Care Day (ISD), people are reminded to do something they love and recognize the importance of focusing on personal wellness.

Since 2011, July 24 has been established as ISD, marking a day to pay particular attention to how we're feeling as individuals, according to The International Self-Care Foundation.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has caused spikes in stress and anxiety among Americans according to the American Psychological Association, the Ohio Department of Health is urging citizens to take today to devote time to ourselves.

"Self care can be accomplished in a myriad of ways" ODH wrote on Twitter, "but the most important aspects are to take a little me-time to enjoy the things you love and care for your mind and body."

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine quoted ODH's tweet and added:

"It is especially important to take care of yourself right now, and your mental health is just as important as your physical health."

DeWine reminded Ohioans who need assistance that mental health resources related specifically to dealing with the pressures of living in a pandemic are available from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services.

"If you need to talk with someone, call the @OhioMHAS COVID Careline: 1-800-720-9616. #InThisTogetherOhio" the governor wrote.

However you choose to honor your needs today, 3News hopes you are able to take time to do something that you love and brings you joy.

If you'd like to send joy to someone else, you can nominate a person to have 3News' Mike Polk Jr. write them a personalized song.
