'I wanted to show how Clevelanders take care of their own': R.A.K.E feeding those in need during NBA All-Star weekend

'The world is watching so I wanted to show how Clevelanders take care of their own.'

CLEVELAND — As the city of Cleveland and its residents gear up for NBA All-Star weekend, one local organization is prepping to feed the community.

R.A.K.E. or Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere, founded by comedian Ricky Smith, is teaming up with clothing company DTLR for a weekend full of philanthropy.

The two organizations will spend the weekend preparing and giving out more than 1,500 hot meals to shelters and the homeless community in downtown Cleveland.

The R.A.K.E. food truck will visit several underserved communities throughout the city, to donate food as well as clothing essentials like T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and socks.

With the eyes of the basketball world on Cleveland this weekend, Smith say's it's more important, not than ever, to make the extra effort in the community.

"I figured the world is watching so I wanted to show how Clevelanders take care of their own," said Smith.

The philanthropic efforts begin Thursday, February 17, National Random Acts of Kindness day, and will continue through Sunday, February 20.

On Thursday, R.A.K.E and DTLR will make their first stop at East Cleveland Salvation Army on Doan Ave starting at 2:30 p.m.
