Akron police: 20-year-old man shot, robbed at convenience store

The victim suffered a 'non-life-threatening' gunshot wound to the leg. Akron police detectives are working to identify the suspect.

AKRON, Ohio — The Akron Police Department is investigating after a 20-year-old man was found shot in the leg and allegedly robbed of his belongings.

Police say the incident happened at around 11 p.m. on Sunday night in the 400 block of North Hawkins Avenue. When officers arrived, they found the victim with a "non-life-threatening" gunshot wound to the leg. He was taken by EMS to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Medical Center.

The victim told police that he was shot "by an unknown male suspect" while in the parking lot of a convenience store. Following the shooting, the victim says he was followed inside the store by the suspect, who threatened to kill him before taking the belongings from his pockets. 

Akron police believe the incident "may have stemmed from a dispute over money." 

Detectives are now working to identify the suspect.
