Two women injured in Akron shooting, police investigating

The victims are a 21-year-old and 19-year-old women.

The Akron Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two women injured Thursday evening. 

According to reports, police responded to the 1400 block of Rockaway Street for reports of shots being fired. At the scene, officers were unable to locate a victim, however shell casings from three different caliber weapons were found. 

At that time, dispatch received a second call reporting that someone had been shot and was being driven to the hospital. 

A short time later, a car approached officers working in the area of S. Main Street and East Buchtel Avenue. A 21-year-old woman in the passenger seat had been shot in her upper body.  She was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General where her condition is life threatening.

Police investigation determined that the 21-year-old woman was riding in a car in the area where shots were exchanged between multiple shooters. One of the rounds entered the back of the window, striking the woman in her upper body, police say. 

She and her driver are not believed to have any further connection to the shooting. 

While officers were on scene at the hospital, a vehicle arrived with a 19-year-old female shooting victim. She sustained gunshot wounds to her lower body.  Her condition is non-life threatening.

The shooting remains under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time. Police have not released any suspect information or a potential motive for the shooting.
