ASHTABULA, Ohio — A 46-year-old woman was killed in a double shooting Friday afternoon, while a 33-year-old man who “was carrying a small child as he ran from the shooter” was left with serious injuries.

Ashtabula police say it was shortly after 3 p.m. on May 5 when officers responded to the scene of an O’Reilly Auto Parts store in the 1100 block of West Prospect Road amid a report of a man firing multiple shots in the parking lot.

“Upon our arrival, the man was located at the scene still holding a semi-automatic handgun,” Ashtabula police said while releasing new details Monday morning. “He was ordered to drop the weapon and surrendered himself, which he did without further incident.”

The man was arrested and is awaiting arraignment on multiple charges. His name was not released.

The woman who was killed in the shooting has been identified as Rihana Gilbert. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the man who was carrying a small child -- identified as Timothy Campbell -- “was pursued by the shooter and was shot at the rear of the store.”

While police say the child was not hurt, Campbell fled the area and was found “several blocks away with one or more gunshot wounds.”

Campbell was taken to the hospital with serious injuries where police say their latest report shows he’s in stable condition.

“The two victims appear to have had no connection to one another nor to the suspect,” Ashtabula police say. “There is no known motive at this time.”
