Avon Lake Police issue reminder to residents after seeing increase in car break-ins

Police say over the past few months many of Cleveland’s west side communities have dealt with numerous car break-ins and cars being stolen.

AVON LAKE, Ohio — The Avon Lake Police Department is warning residents to lock their cars after seeing an increase in car break-ins throughout the area.

Over the past few months, many of Cleveland's western suburbs have reported numerous break-in and car thefts--now including Avon Lake.

Several residents from the city's east end have reported having their cars broken into and property and personal belongings stolen.

In most cases, all of the cars broken into had doors that were left unlocked and of the cars stolen, the doors were unlocked with the keys left inside.

The crimes have typically occurred between the hours of  2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Police are asking that residents report any suspicious people in their neighborhoods and to secure their vehicles at night.

Suspicious people or activity can be reported at 440-933-4567.  The ALPD is continuing its investigation into these crimes.
