Cleveland man indicted in connection with shooting of Shaker Heights teen girls

Lonnel Terry was charged with two counts of felonious assault and other gun related charges in the shooting of two girls last month.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 19-year-old Cleveland man is facing several charges for his role in the drive-by shooting of a pair of Shaker Heights teen girls last month.

According to a Facebook post from the Shaker Heights Police Department on Thursday, a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury indicted Lonnel Terry on two counts of felonious assault and other gun related charges. The department adds that "additional charges" against Terry are forthcoming in Shaker Heights Municipal Court for unrelated crimes uncovered during the investigation.

The shooting took place on November 9 in the 3000 block of Colwyn Road. Police arrived at the scene at around 7:36 p.m. after hearing reports of shots fired.

Upon arriving, officers found two 14-year-old girls from Shaker Heights in a parked vehicle with gunshot wounds. Both teens were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The girls are cousins and are eighth and ninth grade students at Shaker Heights schools. Police say one was shot in the arm, while the other shot in the thigh when they were caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting.

A 911 call after the incident was shared with 3News. "Please, I need the police. I think my granddaughter just got shot. She's 14-years-old. She's in my niece's car. Somebody went past and shot like five times," the caller said.

A neighbor told 3News that the girls are "never trouble" and he's shocked that something like this would happen to them.

Investigators add that the girls were outside trying to get some peace and quiet, so they went to sit in the car. That's when the bullets rang out.
