Suspect in custody after officer involved shooting in Maple Heights, BCI investigating

Officials told 3News that no officers were injured in the incident.

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — On Sunday morning, Maple Heights Police encountered a scary situation after a suspect drove toward several officers at a high-speed in the city.

"While officers were out of their patrol cars to write parking citations, they heard four shots fired and observed a vehicle heading towards them at a high rate of speed," a press release from MHPD says. "The vehicle was heading straight at the officers and was not slowing down.  The officers fired at the vehicle.  The vehicle crashed into the two police vehicles and the suspect was then taken into custody."

Officials say that the suspect was shot by officers and taken to MetroHealth with non-life-threatening injuries and is now in police custody.

Early this morning, Steve Irwin, press secretary for Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost told 3News that the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) was requested by the Maple Heights Police Department in response to a shooting involving more than one uniformed officer.

According to BCI, no other information is available at this time. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
