Woman shot by Rocky River officer after allegedly charging at police with knife

Once at the scene, officers confronted the armed subject and shots were fired, according to a press release from police.

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — A 42-year-old woman was taken to the hospital following an early morning incident in the 3300 block of Linden Road in Rocky River.

The situation started around 1:43 a.m. Monday when the Rocky River Police Department received a report from a third-party law enforcement agency about an "armed subject who was threatening others and self-harm" at the Linden House Apartments.

An updated press release said the subject was a woman who said she was armed with a handgun and knife.

"As officers were waiting outside the apartment, the subject entered the hallway armed with a knife, ignored officer's commands to drop the knife and charged at officers," the Rocky River Police Department said in a press release. "One officer deployed a Taser and a second officer fired his department-issued handgun, stopping the subject's armed assault."

The woman was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center by the Rocky River Fire Department where her condition is currently unknown.

Three Rocky River officers have been placed on temporary administrative leave in accordance with department policy. The officer involved in the shooting is an 11-year veteran with the department.

Police said there were no other injuries.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
