AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after a 28-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured in Akron on Tuesday night.
The incident happened at around 9:50 p.m. in the 800 block of West Market Street when the victim allegedly ran northbound from the sidewalk, into the street and directly into the path of a vehicle traveling eastbound.
The woman, who is in critical but stable condition, was taken to an Akron hospital.
Akron police say witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle attempted to avoid the accident by swerving.
At this time the incident remains under investigation.
