Woman says she was shot by a friend in Akron incident

'According to the victim, she was shot by a friend during a domestic-related altercation,' Akron police said in a press release Monday.

AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating after a 34-year-old woman was hurt in a shooting late Saturday night.

Police say it was around 11:13 p.m. when multiple officers responded to the scene at a residence in the 1000 block of Springdale Street.

Upon their arrival, officers found the woman with apparent gunshot wounds. She was taken to an Akron hospital where police say she is expected to survive.

“According to the victim, she was shot by a friend during a domestic-related altercation,” Akron police said in a press release Monday.

Police detained the alleged suspect, identified as a 27-year-old woman, and brought her to the police station for questioning.

There are no charges at this time.

“The incident remains under investigation, as detectives are still conducting interviews and trying to determine the exact circumstances that contributed to the shooting,” according to Akron police. 

The handgun was recovered at the scene.
