Akron woman pleads for information after her car with father's ashes inside was stolen

Jessica Brazile said she walked outside of her Kelly Avenue home on Thursday morning to find her car missing. Her father's ashes were inside the vehicle.

AKRON, Ohio — An Akron woman is pleading for anyone with information to come forward after she said her car was stolen with her father’s ashes inside.

Outside her Kelly Avenue home on Thursday morning, Jessica Brazile walked out to find something valuable missing.

“I come out of my front door and my car is gone,” Brazile said.

Brazile said it’s not the car she’s most concerned about, rather what was inside: her father’s ashes.

“They were still in the box, in the gift bag from the funeral home,” Brazile said. “I just want him back.”

Her father, Larry, passed away late January. His ashes were delivered to her just over a week ago.

“I know people are going to say why were you carrying him around like that?” Brazile said. “I just say at least I always have him with me.”

Brazile said she parked her car on Kelly Ave. to make it easier to clean out her vehicle.

Amid that, Brazile lost her car keys and facilitated the help of a locksmith to help her get back in, but it was taken before it was all squared away.

“I was scared it was going to get hit,” Brazile said, adding that it is not unusual for cars to be parked out on Kelly.

Streets signs on Kelly Ave. only indicate a parking ban when snow accumulates more than two inches.

The city of Akron lifted its parking ban last Saturday, according to its website.

Brazile says she’s pleading for anyone who may know something to bring her father back.

“I lost him all over again before I got to say goodbye,” Brazile said.

Brazile did file a police report with the Akron Police Department. Her car description has been flagged for police to be on the lookout.

Brazile drove a royal blue 2006 Chevy Cobalt with a navy-blue front bumper.
