1 dead, 3 injured after shooting on St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland overnight Sunday

Police say the shooting happened on the 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue around 3 a.m. Sunday.

CLEVELAND — A man is dead and three people were transported to a hospital after a shooting on St. Clair Avenue in Cleveland overnight Sunday, police confirmed. 

A Cleveland Division of Police spokesperson said a 24-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old male were shot outside near the area of 1466 St. Clair Ave. Police responded around 3 a.m Sunday. All four were transported to a hospital by EMS.

The 28-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital. 

“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims of this unfortunate incident,” Deputy Chief Jarod Schlacht said. “Our homicide unit is investigating this incident, and we are committed to identifying those responsible for this terrible tragedy.”

3News crews were on the scene at St. Clair Avenue near 13th Street around 5:30 a.m. Sunday and observed a heavy police presence. 

Police said investigators are still reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses and victims. No arrests have been made.

“This senseless act of violence does not and will not define our great city,” said Wayne Drummond, chief public safety director. “We will utilize all our technological resources to piece together this incident, and our investigators will work to find answers for those affected by this senseless act.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb said in a statement that he is "both saddened and angered by this thoughtless and cowardly act of violence."

"It has claimed one life and deeply impacted many others," Bibb said. "My heart goes out to the victims and their families. It is time to break the cycle of violence and find better ways to resolve conflicts.  

"Clevelanders deserve to feel safe in our city. My administration will continue to collaborate with law enforcement, local partners, faith leaders and community members to reduce the number of guns on our streets, target hot spots for violent crime and focus resources where they are needed the most. The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating this incident and I encourage anyone with information to come forward."
