CLEVELAND — A 20-year-old man was fatally shot during a drag racing incident that took place in Cleveland on Saturday, July 9.
According to Cleveland Police, officers arrived at 2052 Scranton Road at approximately 2:23 a.m. for reports of a man shot. Upon arriving, officers found a 20-year-old man on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head.
The man was transported to MetroHealth where he was confined and ultimately pronounced dead on July 10. The case is being investigated by the Cleveland Division of Police's Homicide Unit.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that a large group of vehicles had gathered to participate in drag racing. At one point, a male suspect pulled a gun on the 20-year-old victim, who then attempted to run away.
The suspect then proceeded to fire his weapon at the victim, who fell. The suspect then approached the victim and shot him in the head before fleeing the scene.
The suspect has since been positively identified with a warrant having been issued for his arrest.
