CLEVELAND, Ohio — We now know why the head of security at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport left the job.

Channel 3 News obtained Howard C. Phillips’ resignation letter.

It cites a “lack of support to make changes needed to be compliant with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations.”

He believed the lack of “real support” would “expose the airport to additional LOIs and fines for non-compliance.”

Phillips went on to say he was not willing to accept the responsibility anymore for being non-compliant.

There have been security issues in the past including a suspected drunk driver plowing through a fence as well as a city leader helping another bypass a TSA security checkpoint.

Phillips letter goes on to say he “spent way too many nights waking up and thinking about issues within the department or with individuals in the department and my and well-being are far more important…”
