Vigil held for woman who died after being shoved from moving car on I-90

21-year-old Vonnaisha Akins died on Monday after being thrown onto the freeway.

CLEVELAND — Homicide detectives from the Cleveland Police Department are investigating after a woman's body was thrown from a car onto the freeway Monday evening.

Police say the incident occurred on I-90 W near Carnegie Avenue around 5 p.m.

The victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead. She has since been identified as 21-year-old Vonnaisha Akins.

Police haven't been able to provide any information about a possible suspect or a description of the car for people to look for.

However, when 3News spoke to Akins' family members, they believe they know who the suspect may be -- mentioning recent domestic incidents over the last couple weeks. Family members also say Akins deserves justice, iif not for her, for her daughter who is left without a mother.

On Monday evening, family members and loved ones gathered together in Cleveland's Glenville neighborhood to hold a vigil in Akins' honor. You can watch our coverage in the player below:
