Former Lakewood High School student arrested after allegedly trespassing with knife on school property, police say

Lakewood High School officials say the former student was charged with possession of a deadly weapon (knife) on school property.

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A former Lakewood High School student was arrested by police after allegedly trespassing on the school's property with a knife.

Lakewood police told 3News that the arrest happened on Monday, April 22. 

According to an email sent out by Lakewood High School Principal Joy Morgan, the individual was charged with possession of a deadly weapon (knife) on school property. 

"We understand that this news may be concerning. We want to assure you that we have reviewed our safety protocols and procedures and are confident that our school remains a safe learning environment," said Principal Joy Morgan in an email to Lakewood High School parents. "The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority, and we take all threats to safety very seriously."

The full email from Principal Morgan can be read below: 

"We are writing to inform you about the incident this morning involving a former student of Lakewood High School. Upon being taken into police custody, the former student was charged with possession of a deadly weapon (knife) on school property and remains in police custody.

"We understand that this news may be concerning. We want to assure you that we have reviewed our safety protocols and procedures and are confident that our school remains a safe learning environment. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority, and we take all threats to safety very seriously.  

"We encourage you to talk to your children about the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to a trusted adult immediately. 

"If you feel your student needs support, please reach out to their School Counselor or House Principal."
