Is the water quality at Lake Erie beaches safe for swimming today?

The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) predicts good water quality at two of the Cleveland Metroparks beaches.

Need to cool off before the storms hit Friday? The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District reports, water quality at Edgewater and Villa Angela Beaches will both be good on Friday, June 18.

For Edgewater Beach, NEORSD predicts the E. coli concentration on Friday to be 35 MPN/100mL. The Edgewater Beach threshold is 70 MPN/100mL.

At Villa Angela Beach, the predicted E. coli concentration for Friday is 51 MPN/100mL. The threshold there is 155 MPN/100mL, according to the NEORSD.

NEORSD uses modeling results generated by a program called Virtual Beach 3.0. The software does tend to underestimate the E. coli concentration, so NEORSD also uses data from previous years and incorporates it into its daily calculations. So when the predicted E. coli concentration generated by Virtual Beach 3.0 exceeds these threshold limits, the true E. coli concentration is expected to exceed the Bathing Water Recreational Criteria of 235 MPN/100mL.

NEORSD updates the water quality predictions every day. To check that information before you head out to one of the beaches, you can follow them on Twitter @NEORSDbeaches, or you can view the daily reports HERE.
