Chardon closes pools, cancels summer events due to COVID-19

The city manager made the announcement on Facebook on Friday.

CHARDON, Ohio — The city of Chardon has taken a major step in preventing a possible second wave of COVID-19.

City Manager Randal Sharpe said in a statement released on the city’s Facebook, “The danger of COVID-19 still exists, social distancing is required, and large gatherings of more than 10 people are still prohibited… city park and recreation programs are cancelled through June.”

The statement goes on to say “this includes concerts-in-the-park, movies-in-the-park, day camp and other organized recreation activities. All playgrounds, turf fields, basketball, pickleball courts, skate park and pavilions also remain closed.”

Sharpe says that the city will revisit their decision and their plans moving forward once the state provides further guidelines down the road.
