ROCKY RIVER, Ohio — A local attorney assigned to several high profile cases has died.
John J.Gill, most famously known for representing John Demjanjuk--also known as "Ivan the Terrible"-- has died at the age of 88. He passed away at his home in Rocky River after suffering a heart attack and long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
The Korean War Veteran and St. Ignatius alum rose to fame after defending Demjanjuk during a trial in Israel that lasted 18 months.
A memorial mass for Gill, to be announced at a later date, will be held at St. Raphael Church in Bay Village.
Gill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan, his children Brian, Beth, Megan and his granddaughter, Sarah.
