On Wednesday, May 8, at approximately 10:42 a.m., the Elyria Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was notified of a single vehicle crash on SR 18. When deputies arrived, they found Nell Records, of Wellington, unresponsive in her vehicle. She was life-flighted to Allen Mercy Hospital in Oberlin where she was pronounced dead.

According to an initial investigation, deputies determined that Records was traveling eastbound on SR 18 when she started to approach a disabled tractor trailer in the roadway near Quarry Road. When Records swerved to avoid striking the tractor trailer, she lost control of her vehicle, travelled off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch causing her car to go airborne. The car came to rest in a nearby parking lot.

The driver of the tractor trailer was outside of the vehicle when the incident occurred. They did not sustain any injuries.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this incident. SR 18 was closed for over two hours after the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
