Alcohol suspected as factor in fatal Tuscarawas County crash

Sherrodsville resident Jennifer Sickels, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene.

CLEVELAND — A Carroll County woman is dead after a single-car crash overnight Sunday in Tuscarawas County, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. 

Police say the crash happened just before 3 a.m. Sunday morning on State Route 39 in Union Township. 

According to the OSHP, a 2009 Dodge Challenger driven by Richard Sickels, 48 of Sherrodsville, was traveling east near milepost 22 when the vehicle "went off the right side of the roadway, striking a guardrail." The car overcorrected and struck a ditch on the left side of the road and overturned.

Sherrodsville resident Jennifer Sickels, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.

Two rear passengers, a 25-year old resident of Baltic and a 24-year-old Dennison man were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. 

Police said none of the car's occupants were wearing seatbelts.
