3News 'GO!' team helps raise thousands in 11th annual Cleveland Big Wheel Relay

WKYC Studios is a proud media sponsor for the Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center's fundraising event.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center held the 11th Annual Cleveland Big Wheel Relay on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lincoln Park in Tremont. During the fundraising event, teams wore fun costumes and raced adult-sized trikes in a relay format.

3News is proud to be a media sponsor of the event. Morning anchor Dave Chudowsky came back for the 11th straight year to emcee, and this year, he rallied members of the GO! team to compete in the Big Wheel race. Maureen Kyle, Hollie Strano, Carmen Blackwell, and Lindsay Buckingham formed a relay team.

"This is one of my favorite days of the year," Dave said. "And, this year it will be even more special with my coworkers supporting our mission. It's incredible what New Partners of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center have accomplished since the idea of the race was born."

Although the GO! team didn't come up with the win, the event raised a whopping $46,500.

"It's a very fun family event," Khalil Anderson, training coordinator at Lincoln Electric and New Partner member of the Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, said during a interview on "We The People," WKYC Studios' community show. "It is set up like a festival, so we have music, food trucks, beer trucks and a good friend of mine is actually doing chalk art at the event."

The New Partners of Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center is an associate board made up of local young professionals, working together to help advance the mission and programs of the center, through service activities and fundraising events.

To register for the event, click here. After registering, participants will receive an email with instructions to create their team's fundraising page. Then, team members can begin peer-to-peer fundraising to reach their team’s minimum fundraising goal of $400 prior to the event. There will also be food trucks and other entertainment. Prizes are given for race winner, best team costume, and top fundraising team.

Over the last 10 years, more than $310,000 has been raised in support of Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center programs and services.

Volunteers are also needed on race day to help with set up, raffle sales, t-shirt sales and pit crew help. All volunteers will receive a Big Wheel Relay shirt, which was created by Cleveland Clothing Co.! To sign up to volunteer click here.
